Durham Distillery named as ‘Top 10 UK distillery’.

The Spirits Business have named Durham Distillery as a ‘Top 10 UK Distillery in the UK’. England’s most northerly distillery officially released the first bottles of its gin in April 2014, and followed up its success with a vodka later in the summer.

According to the distillery founder, former NHS chief Jon Chadwick, Durham Gin sells 900 bottles a month.

The business, which was set up by former NHS chief Jon Chadwick, is selling 900 bottles of gin each month. Durham Distillery’s products are handmade by Jessica Tomlinson, the company’s distiller, who at 26 is the youngest female distiller in the country. Jon said the success of the business to date had – in no small part – been down to the recognisable brand.

Hoards of investors have rushed to open new distilleries in the UK over the past 12 months, as the spirits renaissance continues to flourish. According to the London Craft Distilling Expo, a whopping 24 new distilleries are to fire up on UK shores before the year is out, more than the combined total of new openings over the last five years.
